Gateway Brass Quintet

Homeschool Concert at Cheryl's Herbs

October 23, 2009

Jasmine, Jeff & Cheryl's 1 1/2 year-old Pekingese, a fixture at Cheryl's Herbs

and an ardent music lover, warms up the audience with an impromptu dance.

In addition to performing a completely new "Musical Journey for Brass"

members of the quintet explain the fundamentals of brass music and brass playing.

Dan explains the origins of the Trumpet while Wayne tries to explain the Trombone.

Robert demonstrates the various sizes of trumpets and what happens as the tube gets shorter.

Audience members are fascinated as Jeff demonstrates why the Tuba is the most perfect brass instrument.

Robert explains how valves work as Jasmine considers the perfectness of the Tuba.

Kathy performs Purcell's "I Attempt from Love's Sickness to Fly" as an example of word painting -

to the obvious delight of audience members.

After over 35 years of presenting their exciting and informative educational concerts in hundreds of St. Louis Area schools, the quintet is striving to provide the experience to those who otherwise would be unable to attend.
